This animation for Dash was done by Locomotion, Düsseldorf for agency Grey for the French market. I was responsible for designing the choreography of the spot, the animation, the cloth simulation and direction for the life action shoot of the hand. Modeling, Rendering & Composition was done by Locomotion.
A really tedious job on this project was the cloth simulation. The clothes were first of all rigged and animated with a simple bone structure. These stiff animated models were then used as goals for the simulation that would give the cloth its natural flowing motion. As there is a multitude of variables in Maya that has to be used to control the behavior of the cloth motion, it takes a lot of time to find the right setting. Each time you have to calculate the complex simulation again and check if the motion feels right.
If not, you change the settings again, recalculate and drink a coffee while waiting. I drank a lot of coffee there at that time.
I love it when I already have a music track before starting animation. The melody gives you a kind of grid to plan your animation and you already know where the climax points have to be placed.
