In May 2009 I was asked to do the complete 3D animation for a music video of Samy Deluxe a German Rapper. Timing and Budget were tough as it is with most music videos. Nevertheless the idea and concept for this video was great as it played in miniature town for model railways. It was shot with a special snorkel camera from Sony.
In this clip Samy should look like one of those tiny miniatures and be animated like a stop motion figure. In the end there should not be any indication that this clip was done with 3D. To give the animation a stop-motion feeling i gave the digital Samy character a complete pose every second frame like you would normally do it with a real stop-motion puppet and used no interpolation.
In three weeks I modelled a Samy character, animated 16 Shots and lighted and rendered them in a photorealistic quality. The compositing and online was done by VCC Ham-
burg. They did a fine job combining my layers with the the real material. This project is a good example of what can be achieved when teamwork is good, the work is well organised and aprovals by the client are fast. Everybody was happy with the final result. Samy told us that he totally liked it and could not have imagined it to be that good! (Testimonial).
