I worked on theses two clips for Parasol Island mainly on my own. Philipp Hansen provided some help in additional shading and rendering.
Both clips were meant to be used as advertising for local newspaper “Rheinische Post” in Düsseldorf for breaks in sport arenas.
The soccer spot was the first project I worked on. Time was short again on this job and I remember planning the animation and scribbling the first storyboard pictures on my way to Parasol in the train. Later I refined some of the moves, when I worked with the letters in Maya and had a better understanding in which way and how much I could deform each letter. I totally love this stage of work. You play with ideas how to move stuff and rework it until you have a nice flow and a good timing. An important element in theses spots was the camera. Some famous guy in film
business whose name I already have forgotten once said, that the camera is an actor or character on its own. That is so true!
For the ice hockey spot we all went to a match of the Düsseldorf local Team “Metro Stars”. I still remember the vibrant atmosphere and the fast moves and countermoves both teams used to score points. Later I tried to capture this feeling in my animation and tried to show the breath taking speed of this sport.
