This is a project I worked on as Animation Director for Parasol Island. Munich based agency Serviceplan asked us to create a trailer for German tv-station ZDF for their crime thriller shows. It was titled "We die for good thrillers". This was a wonderful job because I was assigned to create a very illustrated looking spot that though it had a 2D look, was totally created in 3D.
I set up a quite edgy looking puppet in Maya and just rendered toon outlines to get this typical outline figure of homicide victims. Later I figured out that we needed two figures, because we needed fingers at the end, which would make the outline of the character in total shots less readable. So for different sequences we had a character with
fingers and one without. Car, driver and the cat weremodeled in 3D. Everything else was just pictures mapped on planes in 3D space.
Smoke and Birds at the beginning were created by my good friend and talented Illustrator Niklas Briner. Additional designs were provided by Charles Bals. This was a short and fun job!
